Resilience and perceived life purpose

Resilience and perceived life purpose are phenomena which have been getting more and more attention in foreign literature recently. The results of resilience and life purpose research has its own place in psychotherapy, psychological consultancy and preventive care. The purpose of the theoretical part of diploma thesis was first to present the concepts of resilience and perceived life purpose as separate areas, and then to connect them into an interacting unit. The theoretical part of the thesis refers to the age - related specifics of resilience in connection to developmental tasks of each stage. The aim of the empirical part of diploma thesis was to prove the relationship between resilience and perceived life purpose using a research sample (N = 231), which was being measured by three questionnaire methods - Connor - Davidson Resilience Scale (CD - RISC), Life Engagement Test (LET) a LOGO - test. Another step in the empirical part was to find out if there are differences in grades of resilience and perceived life purpose between two groups (age 18 - 30 and 31 - 65). The results of the empirical part have proven a significant relationship between both variables. Life meaningfulness and acceptance of disability among people with visual impairment.

The thesis deals with meaningfulness of life and acceptance of an affliction by people with visual disability. The work has been divided into two parts. In the review section, the author deals with a psychological approach to meaningfulness of life, with an issue of acceptance of visual impairment, and with specifics of meaningfulness of life over the course of a lifetime. The aim of the empirical part has been to test hypotheses regarding relationship between the meaningfulness of life and the acceptance of vision impairment. Key concepts have been operationalized by scores according to both inventories; the Meaningfulness of Life Scale (MLC) (Halama, 2002, 2009), and the Acceptance of Disability Scale - Revised (ADS-R) (Linkowski, Groomes, 2007). Data obtained from a sample of persons with visual disability (N = 84) has been used to test the hypotheses. For the first time a Czech translation of the ADS-R inventory has been put to practice and the author suggests a further use of the inventory titled Škála akceptace disability. In the empirical part of the study, the author also deals with possibilities of online administration of psychological test methods for people with a visual disability. Life Goals - An Intergenerational Comparison

This thesis deals with the subject of life goals. It presents selected life goal theories and possible life goal classifications. Attention is also paid to developmental characteristics of life goals in the context of Theories of life-span development. Another related subject is meaningfulness of life - which is closely related to life goals. It outlines philosophical roots of this concept and some psychological theories. The last subject of the theoretical part is psychological construct of well-being, which is presented by selected theories. Empirical part of this thesis is trying to verify the hypothesis that there is a significant difference between the content of important goals of younger and older adults. It also examines the connexion between intrinsic and extrinsic aspirations and Life satisfaction. In order to attain this aim, we used two methods trough two different questionnaires - Satisfaction with Life Scale and Aspiration Index (AI). Samples were made by assessing answers of 962 Czech adult respondents, and the survey packet was distributed to participants online.
